Origin

Hiroki Sayama, Swarm Chemistry, Artificial Life 15(1), 2009. Won ISAL Outstanding Paper of the Decade award. Sayama's page.

How It Works

Multiple species of Boids-like particles, each with its own separation, alignment, cohesion, max speed, and perception radius. Particles interact across species using their own parameters, producing orbiting rings, pulsing blobs, and cell-like membranes.

Applications

Artificial life and morphogenesis research. Interactive evolutionary computation for discovering self-organizing swarm patterns. Breed favorites to discover new lifeforms.
