Origin

Witten and Sander, 1981. Brownian tree fractals with dimension approximately 1.71. Paul Bourke reference. Jason Webb experiments.

How It Works

One seed pixel at the center. Random walkers are released from edges, doing a random walk until they touch the cluster, then stick permanently. Results look like lightning bolts, mineral dendrites, frost, and river deltas.

Applications

Models crystal growth, electrodeposition, mineral dendrites, lightning paths, river delta formation, and bacterial colony growth.
